Objective

Ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene in the pathology lab of a government building, adhering to Australian cleaning standards and infection control guidelines.

Scope of Work
  • Dusting all surfaces including benches, shelves, and equipment.
  • Sanitising work surfaces, benches, and high-touch areas.
  • Mopping floors with appropriate disinfectant solutions.
  • Emptying and sanitising rubbish bins.
  • Cleaning and sanitising sinks and taps.
  • Vacuuming any carpeted areas with HEPA-filtered vacuum.
  • Cleaning glass surfaces and windows.
  • Ensuring all cleaning supplies are replenished and stored correctly.
Method
  1. Begin by donning appropriate PPE including gloves and masks.
  2. Use a colour-coded cleaning system to prevent cross-contamination.
  3. Dust all surfaces using microfibre cloths to trap dust particles.
  4. Sanitise all work surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectant.
  5. Mop floors using a two-bucket system to ensure cleanliness.
  6. Empty rubbish bins and replace liners, sanitise bin surfaces.
  7. Clean sinks and taps with disinfectant, ensuring no residue is left.
  8. Vacuum carpets using a HEPA-filtered vacuum to capture allergens.
  9. Clean glass surfaces with a streak-free solution.
  10. Check and restock cleaning supplies, ensuring proper storage.

PassSurfaces have some dust or smudges. Mild odours may be present. Floors are generally clean but may have visible dirt. Rubbish bins are emptied but not sanitised. High-touch areas have been wiped but not thoroughly sanitised.
FailSurfaces are visibly dirty with dust and stains. Strong odours present. Floors are dirty or sticky. Rubbish bins are full or have not been sanitised. High-touch areas are visibly dirty and unsanitised.
