Objective
To ensure the dialysis room is maintained at the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene, minimising infection risks and ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
Scope of Work
- Dust all horizontal surfaces including equipment, benches, and window sills.
- Sanitise all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and dialysis chairs.
- Clean and mop floors using a colour-coded system to prevent cross-contamination.
- Empty and sanitise rubbish bins, ensuring proper waste segregation.
- Wipe down and sanitise all medical equipment surfaces.
- Ensure all cleaning is conducted in accordance with infection control guidelines.
Method
- Prepare the cleaning trolley with all necessary supplies, ensuring colour-coded cloths and mops are used.
- Dust all surfaces using a damp microfibre cloth to capture dust and prevent dispersal.
- Sanitise high-touch areas with an approved disinfectant, allowing appropriate contact time.
- Use a mop with a disinfectant solution to clean the floors, starting from the farthest corner and moving towards the exit.
- Empty rubbish bins, replace liners, and sanitise the bin surfaces.
- Wipe down all medical equipment with a disinfectant wipe, ensuring no residue is left.

Good | Minor dust on non-critical surfaces; high-touch areas are mostly sanitised; floors are clean with minimal streaks; bins are empty but not sanitised. |
Pass | Noticeable dust on surfaces; some high-touch areas missed; floors are clean but wet; bins are emptied but not sanitised. |
Fail | Visible dust and dirt on surfaces; high-touch areas not sanitised; floors are dirty or sticky; bins are full or overflowing. |
Documentation
- Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
- Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
- Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
