Objective

Ensure the Hazardous Waste Store in the healthcare facility is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control, minimising risks associated with hazardous waste handling.

Scope of Work
  • Remove all visible waste and debris from the floor and surfaces.
  • Sanitise all surfaces, including walls, floors, and storage containers.
  • Ensure all waste containers are emptied and cleaned.
  • Utilise colour-coded cleaning systems to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is cleaned and stored correctly after use.
Method
  1. Don appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) before entering the hazardous waste store.
  2. Use a trolley to transport cleaning supplies and equipment to the site.
  3. Remove all visible waste and debris using appropriate tools and dispose of it in designated rubbish bins.
  4. Sanitise all surfaces with approved disinfectants, focusing on high-touch areas.
  5. Clean and sanitise waste containers inside and out.
  6. Ensure all cleaning equipment is cleaned, sanitised, and stored correctly after use.

PassSurfaces have some visible dirt or stains. Mild odours present. Waste containers have visible residues. Basic infection control measures are in place.
FailSurfaces are visibly dirty or stained. Strong odours present. Waste containers are dirty with significant residues. Infection control guidelines are not followed.
Documentation
  • Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
  • Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
  • Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
  • Photos: Before and after photos as requested to document cleaning completion and quality
