Objective

To ensure the escalators in the government building are maintained at the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene, ensuring safety and aesthetic standards are met.

Scope of Work
  • Dusting of all visible surfaces, including handrails and steps.
  • Sanitising of handrails and touchpoints.
  • Vacuuming of escalator steps and surrounding areas.
  • Spot cleaning of any visible stains or spills on steps and handrails.
  • Removal of rubbish and debris from escalator steps and surrounding areas.
  • Inspection and cleaning of escalator edges and grooves to prevent dirt build-up.
Method
  1. Begin by setting up a safety perimeter around the escalator using appropriate signage.
  2. Use a colour-coded cleaning system to avoid cross-contamination, ensuring separate cloths for handrails and steps.
  3. Dust all visible surfaces using a microfibre cloth.
  4. Sanitise handrails and touchpoints with an approved disinfectant.
  5. Vacuum the steps and surrounding areas using a vacuum with a HEPA filter.
  6. Spot clean any stains or spills using a suitable cleaning agent.
  7. Remove any rubbish or debris from the steps and surrounding areas.
  8. Inspect and clean the edges and grooves of the escalator using a small brush or vacuum attachment.
  9. Conclude by removing the safety perimeter and ensuring the area is clear of cleaning equipment.

PassSurfaces have visible dust or smudges. Handrails are partially sanitised with noticeable smudges. Some rubbish or debris present. Edges and grooves have visible build-up.
FailSurfaces are visibly dirty with significant dust and stains. Handrails are not sanitised and have multiple smudges. Rubbish or debris is present. Edges and grooves have significant build-up.
Documentation
  • Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
