Objective
To ensure the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is maintained at the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene, minimising the risk of infection and ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Scope of Work
- Dusting of all horizontal surfaces including equipment, ledges, and furniture.
- Sanitising of all high-touch surfaces such as bed rails, door handles, and light switches.
- Mopping of floors using a damp mop with appropriate disinfectant.
- Cleaning and sanitising of sinks and taps.
- Emptying and sanitising of rubbish bins.
- Spot cleaning of walls and partitions.
- Cleaning and sanitising of toilets and bathroom fixtures.
- Ensuring all cleaning activities comply with infection control protocols.
Method
- Prepare the cleaning trolley with colour-coded cleaning cloths and mops, ensuring all equipment is clean and in good condition.
- Begin by dusting all horizontal surfaces using a damp microfibre cloth to capture dust and prevent dispersal.
- Sanitise high-touch surfaces using a hospital-grade disinfectant, ensuring contact time as per manufacturer's instructions.
- Mop the floor using a damp mop and appropriate disinfectant, starting from the farthest corner and moving towards the exit.
- Clean and sanitise sinks and taps, ensuring removal of any visible soil and limescale.
- Empty rubbish bins, replace liners, and sanitise the bin interior and exterior.
- Spot clean walls and partitions as needed, focusing on visible marks and stains.
- Clean and sanitise toilets, ensuring thorough cleaning of bowls, seats, and surrounding areas.
- Review the area to ensure all tasks are completed to the required standard.
