Objective
Ensure the laundry area in the healthcare facility is cleaned and sanitised to the highest standards, maintaining a hygienic environment to prevent infection and ensure safety for patients and staff.
Scope of Work
- Dust all surfaces including shelves, ledges, and equipment.
- Sanitise all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and taps.
- Clean and sanitise laundry machines, ensuring no detergent or fabric softener residue is present.
- Mop floors using a colour-coded system to prevent cross-contamination.
- Empty rubbish bins and replace liners.
- Ensure all cleaning products are stored safely and securely.
- Check and clean air vents and filters to prevent dust accumulation.
Method
- Begin by dusting all surfaces using a microfibre cloth to capture dust and prevent it from becoming airborne.
- Apply a hospital-grade disinfectant to all high-touch surfaces and allow the appropriate dwell time before wiping clean.
- Use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of laundry machines, paying special attention to control panels and handles.
- Mop the floor using a two-bucket system to ensure clean water is used throughout the process.
- Remove rubbish bags, tie securely, and replace with new liners.
- Store all cleaning products in a designated area, ensuring they are clearly labelled and out of reach of unauthorised personnel.
- Inspect air vents and filters, cleaning as necessary to maintain air quality.

Pass | Surfaces have some dust accumulation. High-touch areas are sanitised but with visible marks. Floors have visible streaks. Air vents have noticeable dust. Mild odours present. |
Fail | Surfaces are dusty. High-touch areas are not sanitised. Floors are dirty with significant streaks. Air vents are clogged with dust. Strong odours present. |
Documentation
