Objective
Ensure the morgue is cleaned and sanitised to the highest standards to prevent infection and maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors.
Scope of Work
- Dust all horizontal surfaces including benches, tables, and equipment.
- Sanitise all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and taps.
- Mop floors with a disinfectant solution.
- Clean and sanitise sinks and taps.
- Empty and sanitise rubbish bins.
- Ensure all cleaning is performed using a colour-coded system to prevent cross-contamination.
- Check and restock cleaning supplies on the trolley.
Method
- Prepare the cleaning trolley with appropriate supplies and ensure all equipment is in good working order.
- Dust all surfaces using a microfibre cloth, starting from the highest point and working downwards.
- Apply disinfectant to high-touch surfaces and allow the recommended contact time before wiping clean.
- Mop the floor using a two-bucket system to ensure effective cleaning and prevent cross-contamination.
- Clean sinks and taps with a disinfectant cleaner, ensuring all residue is removed.
- Empty rubbish bins, replace liners, and sanitise the bin interior and exterior.
- Inspect the area to ensure all tasks are completed to the required standard.

Quality Criteria
Performance Level | Criteria |

Excellent | All surfaces are visibly clean and free of dust, stains, and marks. No odours present. High-touch surfaces are sanitised with no residue. Floors are spotless and dry. Rubbish bins are empty and sanitised. |
Good | Surfaces are mostly clean with minor dust or marks. No strong odours. High-touch surfaces are mostly sanitised. Floors are clean with minimal streaks. Rubbish bins are empty but may have minor residue. |
Pass | Surfaces have some dust or marks. Mild odours may be present. High-touch surfaces are partially sanitised. Floors have visible streaks or spots. Rubbish bins are emptied but not sanitised. |
Fail | Surfaces are visibly dirty with dust and stains. Strong odours present. High-touch surfaces are not sanitised. Floors are dirty or wet. Rubbish bins are full or not sanitised. |
Documentation
- Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
- Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
- Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
