Objective

Ensure the Specimen Room in the Healthcare Facility is cleaned to the highest standards to maintain hygiene and prevent infection, adhering to Australian cleaning standards and infection control guidelines.

Scope of Work
  • Dust all horizontal surfaces including shelves, ledges, and equipment.
  • Sanitise all work surfaces, benches, and specimen handling areas.
  • Clean and sanitise sinks and taps.
  • Empty and sanitise rubbish bins, replace liners.
  • Mop floors with disinfectant solution.
  • Wipe down walls and doors, focusing on high-touch areas.
  • Ensure all cleaning is performed using colour-coded cleaning systems to prevent cross-contamination.
Method
  1. Prepare cleaning trolley with appropriate colour-coded cloths and mops, ensuring all equipment is clean and sanitised.
  2. Dust all surfaces using a damp microfibre cloth to capture dust particles.
  3. Apply disinfectant to all work surfaces and allow appropriate contact time before wiping clean.
  4. Clean sinks and taps using a non-abrasive cleaner, followed by a disinfectant.
  5. Empty rubbish bins, replace liners, and sanitise bin surfaces.
  6. Mop floors using a disinfectant solution, ensuring even coverage and allowing to air dry.
  7. Wipe down walls and doors with a disinfectant solution, focusing on high-touch areas such as handles and switches.

PassSurfaces have some dust or marks. Mild odours may be present. Floors have some residue. Infection control measures are partially adhered to.
FailSurfaces are visibly dirty with dust, stains, or marks. Strong odours present. Floors are dirty with visible residue. Infection control measures are not adhered to, posing a risk of cross-contamination.
Documentation
  • Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
  • Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
  • Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
  • Photos: Before and after photos as requested to document cleaning completion and quality
