Objective
Ensure the effluent treatment area is maintained to the highest cleanliness standards, minimising health risks and ensuring compliance with Australian workplace health and safety requirements.
Scope of Work
- Sanitising all surfaces, including floors, walls, and equipment.
- Removing rubbish and ensuring proper disposal in designated bins.
- Cleaning and sanitising all taps and sinks.
- Mopping floors with appropriate disinfectant solutions.
- Dusting and wiping down all accessible surfaces.
- Ensuring all drains are free from blockages and clean.
- Implementing a colour-coded cleaning system to prevent cross-contamination.
Method
- Prepare the area by removing any loose debris and placing signage to indicate cleaning in progress.
- Use a trolley to transport cleaning supplies and equipment to the site.
- Apply a suitable disinfectant to all surfaces, allowing appropriate contact time as per manufacturer's instructions.
- Scrub surfaces with a brush or cloth, focusing on high-touch areas.
- Rinse surfaces with clean water and dry with a clean cloth.
- Mop floors using a disinfectant solution, ensuring even coverage.
- Dispose of rubbish in designated bins and replace bin liners.
- Inspect the area to ensure all tasks are completed to standard.

Excellent | No visible dirt or stains; all surfaces are sanitised and dry; no odours present; drains are clear and free-flowing. |
Good | Minor traces of dirt; surfaces are mostly sanitised and dry; slight odour may be present; drains are mostly clear. |
Pass | Visible dirt in low-traffic areas; surfaces are partially sanitised; noticeable odour; drains are functional but may have minor blockages. |
Fail | Visible dirt and stains; surfaces are not sanitised; strong odour present; drains are blocked or overflowing. |
Documentation
- Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
- Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
- Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
- Photos: Before and after photos as requested to document cleaning completion and quality
